River Lambourn at East Shefford Mill leat
This project reflected the riparian owner’s interest in improving the river Lambourn at East Shefford Mill leat, and provided a significant opportunity for habitat and aesthetic enhancements of the watercourses.
The property included approximately 310m of watercourses, encompassing the mill leat and a smaller side stream off-take. Both channels are classified as ‘Main River’ by the Environment Agency and the Water Framework Directive lists the current status of the River Lambourn as ‘Moderate’, with the aim of achieving overall ‘Good ecological status’ by 2027. The main river mill leat channel is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) & Special Area of Conservation (SAC) with an ‘unfavourable no change’ classification (Natural England).
Work was commenced in August 2021 and completed in November 2021.
